TECx: Water / A Community Skillshare
Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (PDT)
San Juan Capistrano, CA
With March being Water month here at The Ecology Center, TECx:Water is the culmination of a month-long effort to promote and highlight water as a critical issue in our lives, our community, and global ecological health. The Ecology Center is pleased to host this community forum and skillshare on Saturday, March 30, from 1-4pm with leaders and experts of various aspects of local and regional water sourcing, consumption, and conservation. The afternoon will be highlighted by several keynote speakers, providing short, inspirational TED-style talks with insights from the work they are doing, and what we can do to be a part of good water in Southern California.
WHY WATER? Water is the most valuable resource on the planet. It creates and sustains all life on the planet. Water is also a limited resource, and if we want to ensure a future with a clean and abundant source of water, we must learn to use it less, and to use it better. In this water skill share event, come together with your community and share, engage, and build skills around water conservation solutions in the home. Topics will include drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, water friendly garden design, greywater systems, retrofitting fixtures and more.
Change is possible, and it happens on the individual level. The average Southern California home uses 1800 gallons per day. Almost 95% of that water used goes straight down the drain. With simple knowledge, tools, and a few dollars, we can implement solutions that use this water better. For example, sending it to the garden to grow healthy plants instead of down the drain. Or, spending $1 to install a faucet aerator that will save 2 gallons of water every minute. or maybe it means replacing your garden’s sprinkler systems with a drip system saves 120 gallons per hour. Whatever it is, now is the best time to get involved with our growing community of water stewards. Join us to learn more ways you can incorporate water conservation into your life.
